Storage Balham Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the actions and commitments of Storage Balham to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitation within our operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to uphold human rights and to act transparently in line with relevant modern slavery legislation and good practice.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Storage Balham maintains a clear and uncompromising zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery. We will not knowingly engage with, support, or benefit from any organisation or individual involved in forced labour, servitude, human trafficking, or child labour. This stance applies to all aspects of our business, including direct operations, contractors, and suppliers.
All colleagues, regardless of role or seniority, are expected to act with integrity and to uphold this commitment. Any activity or relationship that conflicts with this policy is unacceptable and may result in the termination of employment or business relationships.
Governance and Responsibilities
The senior management team at Storage Balham is responsible for overseeing our approach to modern slavery. This includes approving this statement, monitoring implementation of our controls, and ensuring that relevant risks are identified and managed. Operational managers are responsible for integrating these requirements into day-to-day activities, including procurement, contractor engagement, and staff oversight.
Our Suppliers and Due Diligence
We recognise that modern slavery risks can arise within supply chains, particularly where there are complex tiers of subcontracting or where labour practices are insufficiently monitored. To address this, we carry out proportionate due diligence on new and existing suppliers and service providers, particularly those that involve labour-intensive services or higher-risk sectors.
Our supplier expectations include adherence to all applicable labour laws, prohibition of forced and child labour, respect for freedom of movement, and fair, lawful working conditions. Where possible, we seek clear contractual commitments to these standards from our suppliers.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
Storage Balham conducts risk-based supplier audits and reviews to verify compliance with our standards relating to modern slavery. These audits may include requests for documented policies, workforce information, and evidence of right-to-work checks and wage practices. Where appropriate, site visits or meetings may be undertaken to gain further assurance.
If a supplier is found to be in breach of our expectations, we will work with them to address the issue within a defined timeline. Where there is a serious or persistent failure, or an unwillingness to improve, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the relationship.
Training, Awareness, and Culture
We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery risks among our colleagues. Relevant staff receive information on how to recognise signs of exploitation, how to manage supplier risks, and how to respond to concerns. We encourage an open and responsible culture in which colleagues feel able to challenge poor practices and report suspicions without fear of retaliation.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing
Storage Balham encourages anyone who becomes aware of, or suspects, modern slavery or related exploitation connected to our business to report their concerns as soon as possible. Concerns can be raised internally to line managers or senior management, or through existing whistleblowing channels within the company. Reports may be made confidentially, and we will take all concerns seriously and handle them sensitively.
We will investigate credible allegations promptly and, where appropriate, involve relevant external authorities. We do not tolerate victimisation of any person who raises a concern in good faith, whether or not it is ultimately substantiated.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
Storage Balham recognises that addressing modern slavery is an ongoing process requiring continual improvement. We regularly assess our approach in light of evolving risks, industry standards, and legal requirements. This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually by senior management to ensure it remains accurate, effective, and reflective of our operations and supply chain.
As part of this annual review, we consider the effectiveness of our due diligence, the outcomes of supplier audits, the adequacy of training, and any reported incidents or concerns. Where necessary, we will update our procedures, provide additional guidance to colleagues, and enhance our engagement with suppliers to strengthen our defenses against modern slavery.
This statement has been approved by the management of Storage Balham and reflects our ongoing commitment to conducting business in a way that respects and protects the dignity and rights of all people involved in our operations and supply chains.
